Waxing FAQ
We say, let the hair grow to about ¼ inch, about the length of a grain of rice, so the wax can grab the hair to ensure best results.
You should plan on waiting at least 24 hours after your wax to tan since your skin will be sensitive after getting waxed. If you have just received a spray tan, you will want to avoid waxing after because the wax will take your spay tan right off.
No. Waxing pulls the hair from the follicle weakening the root. So, if anything it will grow back weaker, more sparse and easier to remove next time.
No, but it will become more sparse and have a finer texture if you wax on a regular basis.
Don’t you dare shave down there!! The hair will be shorter when you come in for your next visit and the wax won’t grab as well. Also, shaving creates ingrown hairs, redness and irritation. If you have an urge to pick up the pink bic, make your appointments every three weeks instead of four or five.
We recommend waxing one or two days before a special occasion to avoid any lingering redness.
How often you need to wax depends on how quickly your hair grows. Generally it will be every 3 to 6 weeks, or when the hair is between ¼ and ½ inch long.
It is normal for your skin to show redness after waxing. Some skin is more sensitive than others and reactions may range from no redness at all to very red. This usually subsides within a few hours, or for very sensitive skin, within 24 hours.
To prevent clogged pores, it is best not to put any heavy lotions on the skin after waxing. Witch hazel, aloe vera gel, or Finnipil may be used to soothe the skin. It is recommended to wait 24 hours before applying antiperspirant to underarms after waxing that area.
Sunless Tanning FAQ
The longevity of a sunless tan depends on the type of self-tanning application, the skin’s natural exfoliation process, and on the skincare regimen followed before and after application.
On average, self-tanners last 4-7 days.
At-home application (lotions, sprays, mousse, etc.) = 3 to 5 days
Professional application (spray booth & airbrush) = 5 to 7 days
Following a good skin care regimen before and after sunless tanning will help a sunless tan last longer. Exfoliating prior to a sunless tanning application and keeping skin moisturized afterwards are essential. Sunless tan-extending products with a light self-tanning bronzer, like Norvell® Color Extender Pro-long™ Moisturizer, help hydrate skin and maintain even, natural-looking color longer.
After any sunless session it is recommended to wait 8 hours before showering or getting wet.
The quick answer is, yes. Most of them will come off on your clothes until you have showered. Only our clear solution does not contain a cosmetic bronzer.
If you are using a spray solution with a cosmetic bronzer (water-soluble make-up), some of the bronze color may rub off on clothing or bed sheets. This is most likely to happen when you get dressed immediately after tanning.
To minimize the chance of the bronzers transferring to clothing, we recommend you wear loose-fitting, darker clothes after your spray session. Try to refrain from physical exertion that could result in your sweating until you shower and wash off the cosmetic bronzers.
All cosmetic bronzers used within Norvell® products are water-soluble. Therefore, in most cases, the color will come out of clothing in the wash.
At Aruba Sun and Spa both our Airbrush Tanning and Norvell Revolution spray booth include a pH balancing solution or prep spray which gives a more golden brown color and maximizes your sunless results. In general, the darker your natural skin tone, the higher concentration of DHA (sunless product) you can apply to the skin and still maintain ‘natural’ color. Generally, those will fair/light skin tones should apply less DHA (sunless product) to the skin to ensure natural looking results.
DHA is an acronym for Dihydroxyacetone.
DHA is the active ingredient found in all sunless tanning products. It is a simple carbohydrate that is primarily used as an ingredient in sunless tanning products. It is often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, and by the fermentation of glycerin. DHA does not make your skin cells darker in pigmentation, but rather reacts with the proteins and amino acids found in the top layer of your skin to create a darkening effect or ‘sunless tan’.
Preparation and maintenance of your sunless tan is the KEY to sunless success. Make sure to read our online sunless preparation and maintenance guide prior to your sunless application.
Follow these important steps to ensure maximum sunless results:
- GENTLY exfoliate your skin prior to your sunless spray session. A gentle, sulfate-free skin polish, such as Norvell® Renewing Sunless Exfoliator, can be used prior to your sunless session.
- Any waxing or shaving should be performed 24 hours in advance of applying sunless products.
- Remove any ‘barriers’ that may prevent the sunless product from absorbing into the skin evenly. These include, but are not limited to: make-up, deodorant, perfume, oils, moisturizers, residue from hair conditioners
We recommend avoiding these situations for the first 48 hours following your spray tan. Chlorinated pools & spas can increase the rate in which the skin exfoliates causing the tan to wear and fade rapidly.
Results will vary based on the individual’s skin type and pH balance. Norvell® solutions have been formulated to provide a color that will be appealing to the majority of sunless tanners, and a variety of shades will allow you to find the perfect solution for your individual needs.
Your sunless technician should have all the tools needed to achieve the custom color you so desire.
The Norvell Auto Revolution sunless booth also gives our guests the option of choosing three different levels of darkness for each color bronzer.
No. It is common to get a false sense of security when you have been spray tanned. Your skin will still burn when overexposed. It is still necessary to apply SPF lotions or sprays when in the sun. Norvell® solutions do NOT contain any SPF.
We strongly recommend wearing clothing that covers you from head to toe. Closed toed shoes, rain jacket and umbrella are also recommended. Just in case you forget, we do have umbrellas for you to use to walk to your car. Any sort of rain drops on your skin or through your clothes (before your first shower) will create an uneven or speckled tan.
Both applications use the same solution, so they will both last the same amount of time. It comes down to personal preference. You may want to consider whether you want to have a person spray you. Some prefer the privacy of the Auto Revolution. The Revolution session is only 3 minutes, whereas the airbrush appointment is about 20 minutes. Some people prefer the flexibility of not needing an appointment. Others enjoy having a technician spray them, because they are able to work with the technician to achieve the best coverage possible. On the other hand, the booth does have a total of twelve different color/darkness combinations that we can work through with you.
We always recommend to have pedicures/manicures before spray tanning because the exfoliating scrubs that are used can negatively affect your color. You will want to wash off any lotions or oils that are used from your hands, arms, legs and feet if you plan to get the spray tan done the same day, as these lotions and oils will act as a barrier to the airbrush solution.
